The company that is building my boat is very affordable, especially for somebody who has just entered high school, like myself. I don’t have much money since I am still not old enough to get a proper job, so the only money I can earn is by doing odd jobs for my neighbours and my friends whenever they decide they need some help around the garden or when they need somebody to walk their dogs.
I don’t know much about marine stainless steel fabrication. Melbourne where I’ve grown up isn’t the most beach-oriented area to live in. I figured it was best to leave the whole boat-building thing to the professionals. I wouldn’t want to torch my hair off with a welding torch, since I don’t know how to use those. I also don’t know where to buy steel and how to make it useful for projects such as building boats and going on the water.
I had always assumed that metal rots when it is in the water for a long time, because sometimes when I look at boats and the underside of boats there is this weird brown coating on them. But apparently, there are things you can do to make your boat look shiny and new. It’s important that my boat looks nice because the mermaids are not going to come to me and speak to me if it doesn’t look professional. Things like a boat latch and fishing rods have to be hidden, otherwise they might think that I am trying to capture them. But the truth is that I just want to talk to them and become their friend.
I have been interested in mermaids since I was very young and I have a lot of mermaid books and dolls. I also made a mermaid movie with my friends when I was in primary school. It was a lot of fun, and obviously I acted in the part of the mermaid, since I am the most qualified to do that. I shared the movie with the rest of my friends and they all thought it was really cool.
