Once the Director of the Zircon clan had finished his lunch, Iris figured there wasn’t much point following him anymore. The man was simply too elusive. He’d slip through some secret passage and then appear on the other side of the building. She could spend the entire day on a wild goose chase for little results, or she should follow some other leads.
As soon as the strange old man was gone, Iris decided to take a closer look at the incredible glass balustrades surrounding the rooftop. There was definitely something suspicious about it, given the quality of the workmanship. Would the best glazier Melbourne had to offer do such a fantastic job for free? The Director believed that money was the source of all evil in the world – a notion Iris knew to be untrue, for humanity itself was the greatest source of evil – so surely he hadn’t hired somebody to do this job.
Iris ran her hand along the glass, still keeping herself invisible just in case someone else came to the rooftop. In the dim light of the underground cavern, it was impossible to see any markings on the balustrade, so instead, she attempted to feel for them. Eventually, her fingers grazed a rough spot on the glass. She leaned close, her eyes adjusting thanks to her spy magic until she could read the tiny carving. As expected, the mark signified that this balustrade had been created by a glass balustrade business near Melbourne.
Now all Iris had to do was track the business down and find out if they’d taken monetary compensation to do this job. If they did, it meant the Director was a hypocrite of the highest order, not practising what he preached.
After noting down the name of the Melbourne balustrade business, Iris stepped back and headed for the stairs. It would take some time to leave the labyrinth that was the Zircon Clan’s base, but all going well, she would still have time to do some investigating before the day ended.
