Reginald Part Two

Reginald tried to ignore Remy, but he was still there, sitting next to him and trying to get his attention during the whole ride on the sewer subway.

“I don’t really want a new kitchen renovation,” said Reginald. “I only got mine done a little while ago, and I instructed the renovators myself. They completed the whole thing to my specifications. I like the way it turned out.”

“I guarantee you’ll like it, even more, when I do it.”

“No thank you,” Reginald said. The sewer subway had finally arrived at his stop, and he hastily got up, glancing behind him to check that Remy was not following. The rat was still seated on the wooden chair, but his eyes remained on Reginald as the sewer subway moved away.

Reginald didn’t know who Remy thought he was. When Reginald had wanted to renovate his kitchen, he had hired the best kitchen design company Melbourne sewers had; not some random rat who accosted him in the sewer subway. And Reginald really did like his kitchen design. It suited all his needs and was the perfect layout for all of his appliances. Reginald liked cooking, so he spent a lot of time in his kitchen. His favourite meal to make was cheese and seeds biscuits, and he liked how his new bench top was made from a special type of marble that made it easier to roll out the biscuits before baking. The marble had to be imported from sewers in New Zealand. Reginald doubted that even if Remy did a whole kitchen replacement, the finished product would be anywhere near as good as what the professional kitchen designers did with the fancy marble.

Now that he was thinking about it, Reginald felt like his cheese and seeds biscuits. Maybe after work he would go home and bake some that he and his wife could share when she returned from her job on the surface. She deserved a little treat after being in the sun all day, and he knew she liked those biscuits just as much as he did.
